What can we offer?

 

Gold Award Residentials

We are able to provide opportunties to complete the gold residential requirements of the award. During these courses you will be faced with challenges and adventure. A whole range of activities will be on offer from canoeing on the River Wye, reaching new heights rock climbing or exploring the depths caving! Mountain walking, gorge walking, archery; there are many opportunities to try new activities.

Expeditions

The Brecon Beacons National Park and the area surrounding Hay-on-Wye offers suitable venues for Bronze, Silver and Gold walking, canoeing and kayaking expeditions. We have developed a number of sample programs to provide you with a taster of opportunties available to Duke of Edinburg Award groups.

Gold Expedition Training  ShadowsWalking

Bronze

Arrive Friday evening. Saturday to Sunday expedition in the surrounding area.

Silver

Arrive Thursday evening. Friday to Sunday expedition on the lower reaches of the Black Mountains or Radnorshire Hills.

 

Gold Expedition Girls

Gold

Arrive Thursday evening. Friday to Monday expedition on the Black Mountains or Brecon Beacons.

We recommend an additional day or two for preparation, acclimatising, teamwork, developing leadership and independence

Canoeing or Kayaking

The River Wye and the Brecon Canal are suitable for Bronze, Silver and Gold canoeing or kayaking expeditions.

Bronze

Arrive Friday evening. Saturday to Sunday expedition on the Brecon Canal.

Silver

Arrive Thursday evening. Friday to Sunday expedition on the Brecon canal or River Wye.

Gold award expedition using open boat

Gold

Arrive Thursday evening. Friday to Monday expedition on the River Wye.

We recommend an additional day or two days to develop core canoeing skills and enable more independence on expedition. This would also give an opportunity to work towards BCU star awards.
