Hay-on-Wye
The 'Town of Books' has a world-wide reputation for its second hand bookshops, and the town also has a number of interesting antique shops, art galleries and cafes. Each May the town hosts an International Literary Festival. The centre of Hay is only 15 minutes walk from Trewern. Hay-on-Wye website.

Brecon
A small market town, which hosts a major Jazz Festival each August.

Hereford
A city which is home to a fine cathedral, the Medieval 'Mappa Mundi' and Chained Library.

Big Pit Mining Museum
Closed as a working coal mine in 1980, the museum now offers visitors an opportunity to experience life underground.

The Wye Valley
which includes the Elan Valley with its reservoirs and visitors centre to the north, and the Forest of Dean and Symonds Yat to the south.
